More to skin than meets the eye
Your epidermis is showing!
When I was growing up, “Your epidermis is showing!” was considered a playful tease along the lines of “XYZ” (eXamine Your Zipper).
It was a tease because most kids, unfamiliar with what epidermis meant, were relieved when told it was skin!
Fast forward to adulthood, drawing attention to our skin is seldom met with relief! Beyond appearance, the condition of our skin is often a reflection of deeper issues. Yes, there is a vanity component, but I argue it’s a worthy incentive to eat and live well.
Establishing a solid foundation, through living a healthy lifestyle and eating nutrient dense food, provides sustained support to skin, whereas with superficial treatments and procedures, the effects on skin are generally transient.
Our deeper skin
As visible epithelial tissue, our skin is only the tip-of-the-iceburg! The invisible (internal) epithelial tissue gives structure and supports functioning of cells, tissues, and organs.
Epithelial cells constitute the protective layers that line our internal organs including the respiratory and digestive tract, reproductive and urinary systems, endocrine and exocrine glands, as well as the external skin epithelium. These epithelia perform a diverse array of functions including selective absorption of nutrients, secretion of hormones and enzymes, and formation of essential protective barriers; as a result, epithelial integrity and homeostasis are of central importance to survival.*
As epithelial tissue contains stem cells for renewal and regeneration, lending broader support to the epithelium in general, versus the epidermis specifically, bestows a deeper impact reflecting outwardly in skin’s integrity and inwardly in cellular integrity.
Resilience and regeneration are common denominators for how best to provide support as skin, and other epithelial cells, are constantly turning over. A focus on decreasing cellular demand—curbing cellular stress, provisioning the cell for optimal functioning—lends to a sustained effect contributing to epithelial homeostasis (a just-right state of being).
Deeper skin support
Going deeper than “skin deep”, Cellemental Complete’s synergistic formulation impacts epithelium at the cellular level. Unlike narrow targeted interventions, its whole food ingredients were selected for their broad and lasting impact.
Bioactive ingredients include (or support the production of) what you would expect to find in a skin support supplement:
- collagen (marine, terrestrial), elastin, keratin
- vitamins and minerals
- protein, peptides, amino acids
- essential fatty acids
- antioxidants (polyphenols, flavonoids, carotenoids).
Surpassing the expected, ingredients were selected for their health revitalization factors including nutrient density, ability to withstand extreme conditions, and unique properties.
Specific relevance to skin (and epithelial tissue) rejuvenation:
Sea Cucumber
Along the lines of a shock-and-awe strategy, sea cucumbers have the ability to entangle assailants in a Silly String String™ like web of expelled innards (e.g. organs, gonads). After scuttling away to safety, the sea cucumber regenerates its spent tissue with sulfated polysaccharides (fucosylated chondroitin sulfate, glucosaminoglycans, fucoidans), phospholipids, and microfibrils lending support to its dynamic resilient and regenerative capacity:
It is believed that direct use of sea cucumber can reduce wound recovery time and help new tissue formation and regeneration in human just as the sea cucumber’s ability to quickly regenerate its own body tissue when damaged.☆
Sea Buckthorn
A broad carotenoid and omega fatty acid profile (unusual for a plant) imparts robustness necessary for sea buckthorn to endure extreme conditions with astaxanthin, GLA, and omega 7 especially supportive of epithelium, both external and internal:
Ultimately, restoration of intestinal epithelial homeostasis and attenuation of colitis symptoms were achieved. Sea Buckthorn Polysaccharide Ameliorates Colitis*
Menopausal women who used sea buckthorn oil had better vaginal epithelial integrity and a higher vaginal health score. Sea buckthorn, its bioactive constituents, and mechanism of action: potential application in female reproduction**
Intact with the co-factors, peptides, and enzymes of whole food, the synergy of our formulation brings the bioactivity and bioavailability essential for optimal cellular function. Bovine heart and liver as well as lingonberry and blackcurrant provide further support to bring the balance your body, skin, and cells crave!
